Our own Membership Officer, Wednesday Medlen, began earning money as a teen after completing the Babysitter Training. Here is her story.

Babysitting helped me earn the money to fly to California.  I wanted to visit my best friend who had moved to California. My mom suggested I start babysitting so I could save money for the plane ticket.  However, she wasn’t going to let me start babysitting until I had some training.  So when I turned 12 I enrolled into the Red Cross Babysitting Training course.  I learned how to help a child if they stopped breathing or were choking.  I learned how to deal with problems under pressure (which still help today).  The training even taught me how to tell my neighbors and people in my church that I now offer babysitting services and what my price per hour would be.  All money I earned went towards buying my plane ticket and it is a great memory I will never forget!!
